Alberta Agriculture & Irrigation Main Canal Repair: April 15, 2024

The Board has received the following update information with respect to the Main Canal Repair:

Work to date:

• Total excavation of existing gravel armour completed is 3,720m (100%)

• 3,720m of RPE liner in place (100%)

• 3,720m of gravel armour fully placed (100%)

• Siphon modification to toe berm

• Removal of the cofferdam

Site Cleanup to Date: 300-400m of ditch cleanup, drain outlet modifications, grading works, general slope cleanup, etc.

Work over the next two weeks:

• Site cleanup, demobilization of job shack and several pieces of equipment

• Dennis Dirtworx will continue to complete the toe berm/ back slope clean-up. This includes:

o Topsoil Placement/Seeding/Remediation

o Road grading/general site cleanup

o Toe berm/backslope cleanup

o Drain outlet modifications

• A wet-test of the Canal Liner between Stations 2+300 – 6+020 will take place from April 15-17, 2024. Sufficient water will be diverted into the canal starting first thing on Monday morning to fill the canal to the full supply level at the upstream end of the flume. MPE and AGI will be on-site to monitor the performance of the newly installed canal liner.

Work of the project remaining:

• Placing road gravel on canal bank roads

• Restoring the access roads

• Final Demobilization

• Weed Control

Milestone dates:

• Partial Substantial Completion – March 28th, 2024 (complete all in-canal work)

• Total Completion – May 31st, 2024 (complete all work of the project)

AGI staff will continue to attend the site occasionally to observe project progress as well as perform any normal inspections or preventative maintenance on other components on the headworks.

An update on the water storage as of April 15, 2024; the Oldman Dam is at 35% of full supply level (FSL) and Keho Reservoir is at 84% of FSL. As a comparison, the Oldman Dam is usually 62-80% of FSL at this time of year.
