General Labourer
Primary Focus
- Perform work connected with laying pipe, and maintenance and repair of infrastructure in the Irrigation District
Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities
- Working in a manual labour intensive environment that involves repetitive shovelling, standing, stooping, bending, squatting, walking and lifting weights up to 50 pounds (23 kg) unassisted
- As the majority of this work is conducted outdoors, workers must be ready to work in all types of weather conditions, including inclement weather
- Climbing in and out of trenches, walking on uneven ground, working around heavy equipment and working in confined spaces is required
- Familiarity in understanding issues involving ground disturbance and trenches, and ability to work in and contribute to a safe work environment
- Experience operating and maintaining equipment would be an asset
- Ability to work solo and as part of a crew or team
Education and Experience
- Proof of valid Class 5 driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record are required, if the position is offered
- Class 1 or Class 3 with Air Endorsement (“Q”) would be beneficial
- Ability to handle difficult situations with tact and diplomacy
- Hoisting and rigging knowledge would be an asset
- Farming background would be an asset
