Irrigation Acres / Water Rights
The Board of Directors is not accepting applications for expansion irrigation acres at this time.
The current rate for Irrigation Acres is currently under review.
At least 50% of the cost of the water rights purchased is due at the time of signing with the balance due December 31 of the year that those acres are added to the District Assessment Roll.
Irrigation acres require a legal point of delivery and therefore may require an irrigable unit or remote delivery agreement in order to supply water.
Irrigation acres can only be placed on properly classified land. For more information on land classifications, check out the Alberta Agriculture and Forestry website.
Transfer of Irrigation Acres
Irrigation acre transfers are available between November 1 and the end of February. Transfers are from one titled irrigation parcel to another titled irrigation parcel. The current fee for a transfer is $850 plus GST.
Prior to transfer, any financial encumbrances on the transferring parcel must be signed off by the financial institution/purchaser.
The new location for the transferred irrigation acres must have a proper land classification, District infrastructure must have sufficient capacity for water delivery, have a minimum of 50.0 irrigation acres on the District Assessment Roll, and reside within the LNID.
Parcels may require being added into the area of the District and may require an irrigable unit or remote delivery for access to water.
Construction Contribution charges will be assessed for irrigation acres transfered onto LNID pipelines.
Alternate Parcel Agreements
Alternate Parcel Agreements must be signed up before the end of March for use within the next irrigation season.
Alternate Parcel fees are $14/acre plus GST.
Pressure charges will be added where applicable.
The new location of irrigation acres must have a proper land classification and District capacity must be suitable for water delivery.
Annual Irrigation
Annual Irrigation Agreements are available for the following season starting April 1. The current rate for Annual acres is $75.00/acre plus GST with a minimum of charge of $750.00 plus GST.
Pressure charges will be added where applicable.
Pumpstation Surcharge will be added where applicable.
The location of annual acres must have a proper land classification and District capacity must be suitable for water delivery.
Other Use Water Agreements
The LNID has many other use water agreements to suit the needs of water users. See the Rates sheet for current charges of other use agreements.
Household Purposes Agreement
Household Purposes Agreements allow up to 1.0 AcreFoot of water and is designed for water users who do not have any storage facilities for water.
The irrigated area allowed under this agreement is 1 acre.
Domestic Water Agreement
Domestic Water Agreements allow up to 3.0 AcreFeet of water and is designed for water users who have storage facilities for water.
The irrigated area allowed under this agreement is 1 acre.
Water Conveyance Agreements
Water Conveyance Agreements are available for purposes other than irrigation such as municipal, agricultural, commercial, industrial, management of fish, management of wildlife, habitat enhancement, and recreation. Water for the purpose of injecting into the ground to enhance oil or gas production is prohibited.
The only new Water Conveyance agreements allowed are the Water Conveyance Type 3. WC3 Agreements larger than 100 AcreFeet must be approved by the LNID Board of Directors. WC3 Agreements require a one-time License Access Fee for each Acre Foot applied for. The rate is currently under review.
